KEMPER AT THE CROSSROADS

Kemper at the Crossroads will bring contemporary art to new audiences and help to solidify what is already a bustling community of artists, businesses and urban residents in Kansas City. Our approach was to design a gallery that is flexible, transparent and communal. We introduced a “window to the gallery” to support that concept, along with a LARGE, movable, interior wall to create varying gallery spaces. A new, prominent north entry brings you in on axis with the main gallery. Signage is integral to the architecture through translucent super graphics on the glazing and a metal band over an existing canopy. We are also blurring the lines between art, architecture and design by collaborating with Derek Porter Studio for integrated lighting elements and Egawa+Zbryk for a functional, sculptural space divider.
