FLAHERTY & COLLINS – GREENWAY TOWER (ON THE BOARDS)
Situated at the confluence of Kansas City’s largest rivers, Greenway Tower aims to leverage its unique position towards goals of PUBLIC INVITATION, CONNECTIVITY, and REVITALIZATION of what is otherwise an underserved part of Kansas City, Kansas. Serving as a new gateway, the project interfaces with existing pedestrian infrastructure and outdoor recreation space to become uniquely urban and pedestrian, all the while providing much needed dwelling units.
The project proposes the restablishment of 4th street as a pedestrian focused, vehicle friendly throughway, serving as both a physical and communal connection between the site and the rest of the city. The result is a building form that engages with the city’s fabric, inviting residents to a central public space full of life. Subtle manipulations of the building’s form contextualize the project to reflect the gable forms of neighborhood homes and direct views and access toward various amenities around the site.
