Field Office
Field Office transforms an existing warehouse into a branch office for a national specialty contractor. Drawing on the owner’s expertise in framing and wall finishing, the design brings the craft of construction into the workplace through a restrained and purposeful material palette. The concept is grounded in two ideas: true craft, a dedication to careful execution, and work boots, a symbol of utility, hard work, and lasting performance. Together, these ideas shape a workplace that is practical, refined, and honest.
At the heart of the renovation are two twenty foot tall skylights that bring natural light deep into the former warehouse. The main gathering spaces are organized around this new source of daylight, including a shared kitchen, lounge, and flexible conferencing center that supports workforce training and continuing education. A long interior axis connects these communal spaces with enclosed meeting rooms and open work areas.
Team workspaces and offices are organized around existing windows, daylight, and privacy. Acoustical ceiling elements help define open office areas, while carefully considered wall treatments distinguish zones for collaboration and focused work. Glass fronts allow meeting rooms and offices to remain visually connected to the larger workplace while maintaining separation where needed.
A second entry creates a direct transition between the field and the office. Dedicated areas for work boots, along with added restrooms, showers, and conference space, support crews moving between job sites and the workplace. The result is a workplace designed around the realities of construction, with details that reflect the skill, utility, and care behind the work itself.
