Moving a gallery and framing business from the Crossroads Art District to the West Bottoms of Kansas City might be regarded as a risk, but John O’Brien is used to pushing boundaries. John and Robin Beard of Dolphin Gallery collaborated with KEM STUDIO on the design and detailing of the project. Throughout the process, many galleries and museums were evaluated. John and Robin meticulous researched local and NYC’s Chelsea neighborhood galleries and KEM STUDIO leveraged their experience designing local galleries and involvement with the arts community. The result is a design that allows the art to take center stage while allowing the architecture to be honest to the existing structure through clean, rigid geometry framing view corridors and thoughtful, economical detailing.
