AIRSTREAM @ 100 DESIGN CHALLENGE

KEM STUDIO was invited by Airstream to participate in the Airstream @ 100 Design Challenge. Airstream will turn 100 years old in 2029 and the invitation-only design challenge was created to identify the next disruptive innovation for Airstream.Instead of designing an object as a response to the challenge, we took Airstream through our research process – We stayed in Airstream trailers. We toured the Airstream headquarters and manufacturing line in Jackson Center, Ohio. We went to dealerships to “buy” travel trailers. This approach lead us to an innovative BIG IDEA that facilitated new version of wanderlust – ultimately winning the challenge. Please contact us if you would like to learn more about our research process. We use this process in all of our projects (architecture and industrial design) to identify innovation in seven different categories (context, function, interaction, user, brand, manufacturing processes & constraints) and ultimately create a BIG IDEA and unique approach for each project.
