ADOBE – JOIN ME

What started as a simple block of wood became a playful tool for communication in the evolving workplace.

Join Me is a workplace communication tool designed by KEM STUDIO in collaboration with Adobe. Created to encourage “casual collisions,” the design takes inspiration from Danish wooden toys and uses a simple physical signal to communicate availability. With Join displayed, the object invites spontaneous conversation. Flipped to Focus, it provides a polite visual cue that someone is concentrating on work.

The idea is intentionally simple. Rather than introducing another digital status indicator, Join Me makes workplace communication tangible and intuitive. The compact wooden object combines a familiar form, contrasting colors, and clear messaging to create a simple interaction that supports both collaboration and individual focus.

The design also considers how the object is made. Join Me can be produced in different locations using locally sourced natural woods, water based finishes, and common manufacturing techniques without custom tooling. The result is a thoughtful, adaptable product that brings a human element to the modern workplace.
